On Saturday 21st May four crazy WNC members will be taking the plight of our beloved rhinos to the heart of China.
Brad Schroder, Greg Canning of Welgevonden, Panayota Galanakis of AWA and Vaalwater/Modimolle physiotherapist Wilna-Mari van Staden will be running the Great Wall of China Marathon (42km). The Great Wall marathon is deemed to be one of the most difficult races in the world, Brad and Greg will be taking it a step further and running in rhino suits! And if thatʼs not enough these crazy South Africans fly back to South Africa two days later to tackle the second part of their challenge - on 29th May Brad and Greg will be running the 89km Comrades marathon, sharing a rhino suit over the full length of the race. Wilna Mari will be giving physio support at the Comrades to make sure both are in good shape!
Brad and Greg are both passionate conservationists and have made their careers in this field. Combined they have been involved in rhino conservation for the past four decades and fellow runners Panayota and Wilna-Marie, are equally passionate about rhino preservation.Says Schroder “We are looking for One Million AMAZING people to donate only R1.00, these small amounts add up quickly and will allow us to achieve our goal of raising R1 Million... Be One in a Million and make your small contribution to this amazing cause. YOU can make a difference!”
All funds raised will go directly to rhino conservation through Save the Rhino International (www.savetherhino.org). 50% of the funds raised through Save the Rhino will go towards rhino related conservation projects including protection, security and education initiatives in the Waterberg Area of the Limpopo Province, this will be managed by Save the Rhino International and Welgevonden Game Reserve NPC (www.welgevonden.org "the official website").
