TOP UN ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD FOR THE BLACK MAMBA ANTI-POACHING UNIT A SOUTH AFRICAN MAJORITY FEMALE RANGER TEAM.

With THE CHAMPIONS OF THE EARTH AWARD, UNEP has recognised the impact the Black Mamba unit has made in combating poaching in the Balule Private Game Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger National Park.  Armed with just handcuffs, pepper spray and radios the 26 member team patrol the reserve, checking fences and searching for poachers their camps and snares - they have reduced snaring by 76%. The Black Mambas use their off-time to educate their local communities in conservation and the need to preserve Africaʼs great wildlife heritage.
