Join the Waterberg Nature Conservancy

The Waterberg Nature Conservancy (WNC) was started in 1989 by Clive Walker for Waterbergers to communicate, meet and assist each other, and to help those who live in and have an interest in the Waterberg. Living in this stunning area is very rewarding. As a member of the WNC, information sharing, help and a sense of community are never far away. From its early beginnings with only a handful of members, the organisation has grown its membership substantially. The core principles however remain the same:

– To conserve the flora, fauna, wilderness areas, historical sites, river systems, and natural heritage sites in the Waterberg.
– To promote and conserve the common interests of its members in the protection and conservation of wildlife, flora, fauna and wilderness qualities of the Waterberg.
– To keep members informed of legislation regarding the environment.

The WNC, steered by its volunteer Executive Committee (ExCo) to follow the WNC constitution, not only retains these core principles, but it also keeps members informed of what is going on in the Waterberg. The WNC newsletter called “whatsUp!” is sent out electronically every 6 weeks. The WNC also have a website as well as Facebook and Instagram pages.

There are five general meetings a year at which members and their guests are entertained and enlightened on a wide variety of topics by local and visiting speakers. Meetings are concluded with a braai when matters of mutual interest are discussed whilst socialising over refreshments. We realise of course that it’s not always feasible for members to get to these meetings but being a part of the WNC is not just about that, although we do love to see as many members as possible.

WNC supports various organisations and campaigns that do work associated with environmental conservation and awareness/education.

The WNC welcomes new members both to communicate and spread its message and to maintain a sound financial position. The WNC is committed to continuing that situation. Annual membership for up to four people is a mere R350. However, if a company/organisation feels it would like to pay more for a membership, then quite naturally we would welcome that.
